The Client
Junk King Cincinnati
Industry: Junk Removal and Hauling
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Junk King Cincinnati handles residential and commercial junk removal, hauling, and dumpster rental across the Cincinnati metro. They’ve earned a 4.9 rating across more than 4,700 Google reviews, which is not an accident. The crews show up, they haul, the customer leaves a review. That part of the business was working fine.
The Challenge
Losing Ground in a Market They Should Have Owned
Junk removal lives and dies on the map pack.
A homeowner stands in a garage full of stuff they’ve been avoiding for two years, pulls out their phone, types “junk removal near me,” and calls one of the three businesses Google shows them. That’s the whole buying process. If you’re not in those three, you didn’t lose the job on price or reviews. You never got a shot at it.
Junk King Cincinnati was sliding out of that top three across parts of the metro. Their reviews were strong, their trucks were rolling, their service radius covered the whole market. What they’d lost was ground on the map, and the jobs that went with it were the ones they never saw. No missed call. No lost bid. Just a quieter phone and no obvious reason why.
The invoices kept coming, though.
That’s the part that stings for a lot of owners we talk to. You’re paying a generalist agency real money every month and the reporting looks busy. Rankings for keywords nobody searches. Traffic that never turns into a booked haul. The agency handles a dentist, a law firm, a boutique, and a junk removal company with the same playbook, and none of them get someone who understands how a market like Cincinnati gets carved up street by street.
Two things had gotten away from them:
Local SEO at the grid level. Ranking “in Cincinnati” means nothing. A junk removal company ranks differently in Mason than in Norwood than in Fairfield, and if you’re not measuring at that level, you can’t fix what’s broken.
AI search. Homeowners are starting to ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google’s AI answers who to call before they ever open Maps. Almost nobody in this market had touched it.
They came to Digital Shift for a specialist. Someone who works in home services and nothing else.
The Solution
A Local SEO Program Built Around the Map and the AI Answer
We started with a strategy session and a full grid scan of the market, so we could see exactly where Junk King showed up, where they didn’t, and which competitor was eating the gap. Then we went to work on four fronts.
- Digital PR and AI Citations. This is the piece almost nobody in junk removal is doing yet. We placed Junk King Cincinnati in the sources AI assistants read when a homeowner asks which company to call, and built the citation and mention footprint that gets a business named in an AI answer instead of skipped. Local press, industry sources, structured data, and the entity signals that tie the brand, the location, and the service together in a way machines can read.
- Local Business Citations. Name, address, phone, hours, and service areas made accurate and consistent everywhere they appear. Unglamorous work. It’s also one of the fastest ways to lose map coverage when it’s wrong.
- Strategic Posting. A consistent posting schedule with real calls to action, tied to what Cincinnati homeowners are clearing out that month. Spring garage cleanouts hit differently than a post-holiday couch haul.
- Google Business Profile Optimization. We rebuilt the profile around how people actually search in this market: “junk removal Cincinnati,” “debris removal,” “dumpster rental near me,” “furniture removal.” Categories, services, service areas, photos, and attributes all aligned to the searches that produce booked hauls, not the ones that produce browsers.
No long-term contract. Month to month, and we don’t work for another junk removal company in their service area.
The Result
88% Map Coverage and a Four-to-One Lead Over the Next Closest Competitor
Four months in, here’s what the Cincinnati junk removal market looks like.

- Junk King Cincinnati: 88% coverage across the metro for the search term “junk removal.” They show up in the top Google Maps results for nearly nine out of every ten searches on the grid.
- Next closest competitor: 23%. The two after that come in at 20% and 18%.
- Average map position of 2.12, across the entire scanned market. Not their best neighborhoods. The whole thing. The competitors’ averages run from 7.38 to 12.30, which in practice means a homeowner has to scroll past Junk King to find them. Most don’t scroll.
That’s the spread. One company showing up almost everywhere, three companies splitting what’s left.

- junk removal: #1 in Cincinnati, up 7 positions
- junk removal near me: #1 in Cincinnati, up 12 positions
- junk removal cincinnati: #1 in Cincinnati, up 2 positions
Those three drive the most booked hauls. They’re also three of several hundred keywords we track for this account daily, at the location level, in a report Junk King owns and can pull any time.
“Junk removal near me” is the one worth sitting with. It climbed 12 spots to the top. That’s the search a homeowner runs standing in the garage, phone in hand, ready to book right now. Nobody types “near me” while they’re doing research.
The Same Four Months on Google’s Organic Results
Maps is one surface. The website is the other, and it moved too.
Measured against the same four months the year before, across every keyword we track for this account:
- Average ranking position improved 50%.
- Click-through rate nearly doubled, up 96%. Same audience seeing them in search results. Almost twice as many choosing to click.
Junk King Cincinnati also holds top position and AI recommendations for searches like these:
- construction trash pickup
- dumpster rental rates near me
- how much does dumpster rental cost
- how to get rid of big trash items
- how to get rid of old couch
In AI SEO there’s more to being recommended than just ranking for “junk removal Cincinnati” on Google.
Those are the questions a homeowner types before they’ve decided to hire anyone at all. Somebody searching “how to get rid of old couch” isn’t shopping yet. They’re about to be, in roughly four minutes, once they figure out that hauling it themselves means a truck they don’t have and a landfill that closes at three.
They’re also the exact questions people now put to ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers instead of a search box. When you’re the source those answers pull from, you’re on the short list before the homeowner knows they’re building one. That’s what the citation work buys, and it’s why we treat it as core to the program rather than an add-on.
The Full Picture

Green across Blue Ash, Fairfield, Hamilton, Mason, Sharonville, West Chester, Wyoming, Liberty Township, and through the city. Ones and twos through most of the metro. That’s not a company that ranks well in its own zip code. That’s a company that owns its market.
Junk King Cincinnati didn’t get there by spending more. They got there by working with an agency that does home services and nothing else, and has since 2007.
If you’re running a junk removal or hauling operation and your map coverage looks more like the 23% than the 88%, the gap isn’t your trucks or your crews. It’s who’s handling your local search.
See your own map. We’ll run a grid scan of your service area and show you where you’re showing up, where you’re not, and which competitor is taking the calls. No charge, no obligation.
